Heute vor 100 Jahren erblickte die Computerpionierin Grace Murray Hopper das Licht der Welt. Im zweiten Weltkrieg programmierte sie für die US-Marine den Ur-Computer Mark I. Sie verfasste das das erste Benutzerhandbuch, baute den ersten Compiler namens A-O und schuf die Programmiersprache Flow-Matic. Weltruhm erlangte sie mit der Entwicklung von COBOL (Common Business-Oriented Language). Last but not least hat sie als erster weiblicher Konteradmiral einen der höchsten Ränge der amerikanischen Marine erreicht -- ohne jemals auf einem Kriegsschiff gedient zu haben.
