hmm ja ist schlecht zu erklären :S
Ich hab halt die normale background-color und der text bzw. das was die Hp ausmacht nochmal in einer Art Box (Umrandungen) dargestellt.
Jetzt möchte ich, dass das was in dieser "box" ist eine andere hintergrundfarbe hat als das was außerhalb der Box steht.

Das stimmt nicht direkt, außer man hat es in einen Bild in verbindung...
Wenn man
background: #color; macht geht es auch jedoch sollte man es lieber so machen:
background-color: ...
background-image: ...

Für Wert eine zusammenfassende Angabe aus background-image, background-repeat, background-attachment und background-position notieren.
z.B. background:url(../bilder/background.gif) repeat-x fixed;
latte obs ein bild ist oder nicht.
mit background alleine hast du weniger markup bzw weniger text
